Rhys Wright – RL Wright Limited
Rhys Wright is a property investor specializing in Nottingham and Derby. After starting his journey in Buy-to-Let (B2L) investments, he quickly shifted his focus to Houses in Multiple Occupation (HMOs), with a keen interest in R2R HMOs, HMO management, and the strategy of Buy, Refurbish, Refinance (BRR) HMOs.
With a background as an electrician and growing up in a family of tradespeople, Rhys has always had a solid understanding of construction. This practical knowledge, combined with over 12 years of experience in systems and processes from working at a leading aerospace company, has shaped Rhys’ unique approach to property investing — blending hands-on expertise with a methodical, systems-driven mindset.
Rhys will share a case study from his own experience, where he encountered challenges with his first BRR HMO project. Despite hiring a well-respected and well-vetted build team, Rhys faced significant non-compliance issues that led him to take the tough decision of stepping in as the project manager to bring the build to completion. From this experience, Rhys developed a refined process for finding and vetting trusted build teams — a process that has helped him avoid costly mistakes and increase the success of his HMO projects.
In his presentation, Rhys will discuss the lessons learned and provide valuable insights on how other HMO investors can avoid similar pitfalls and build more successful, compliant projects from the start
